Food Systems and Supply Chains
We are committed to support the transformation of the food system, so we can feed the growing population in a sustainable manner.

The food system is essential to sustaining life for the growing global population. However, the current system is far from sustainable. The food supply chain is not only responsible for 26% of global GHG emissions, but is also one of the largest causes of terrestrial acidification, eutrophication and water scarcity and takes up about 43% of the world’s ice- and desert-free land (Poore and Nemecek, 2018). Most of this is caused during the farm stage.

There is large potential for progress in agriculture. For example, certain sustainable practices have the potential to transform a farm from emission source into a sink. However, it is not trivial to improve the food system as a whole, as there are no one-size-fits-all solutions due to the wide variety in climates and production systems.
